JUNIOR WORLD CHAMPION
A huge congratulations to Carmel Ponga who competed in the International Taekwon-do World Champs in Tampere, Finland. She became the JUNIOR WORLD CHAMPION in power breaking and then not only claimed one gold medal this tournament but went on to gain a second gold medal. Making her a DOUBLE WORLD CHAMPION The second gold medal was for team power in which each team member completes one break each. Once the team went through to play offs Carmel stepped up to the plate to successfully claim the gold for her team. Carmel’s achievements at this Taekwon-Do event have been nothing short of amazing. We are so proud of you!
Future Leaders Academy Program in Samoa
Over the holidays between Term 3 and 4 we had four students attend the future leaders academy over in Samoa. Here is what Year 12 student Luke Hayes-Brill had to say about the experience: “Learning about the amazing Samoan culture at Future Leaders Academy was a gift I will always treasure. I am also thankful to have had the opportunity to contribute, whether it was planting 400 trees or cleaning beaches. And I’m glad to say this knowledge will stay with me forever” Year 12 Kalanee Rauhihi-Wicks also attended the future leaders academy over the holidays! Here is what she had to say: “On the 1st of October a group of students from New Zealand, Australia and Samoa were selected to be apart of the Future Leaders Academy program in Samoa. This program is about developing our leadership skills and showing us how we can use these skills throughout life.…
Armistice Day Commemoration
At the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month, the guns fell silent, marking the end of the first world war in 1918. On the 11th November 2023 our Services Academy marched down to Levin Cenotaph to attend the Armistice day commemoration. The students represented the college well and we are very proud of them.

Plogging Club – 300km
On Tuesday 7 November the Plogging Club at Horowhenua College completed 300 km of running and litter collection for the year. Plogging is the act of running and collecting litter throughout the community. Throughout the year they have collected over 187 kg of litter! The Plogging Club runs 3 days a week and has 15 members. Great job keeping your fitness up and keeping Levin beautiful!
