Education Review Office

The Education Review Office (ERO) reviews every school in New Zealand to ensure it is providing the best possible education for their students.  Recently ERO completed its review of Horowhenua College by spending a number of days with us, looking at what we do and talking with students and staff.

Our ERO report is full of very positive and encouraging statements, such as:

  • Students benefit from access to a variety of pathways to support success, including a Services Academy, Trades Academy, Gateway, and a Horticulture Academy.
  • The school has a large pastoral team that takes collective responsibility for student wellbeing, placing a strong emphasis on student voice and trauma-informed practices.
  • The Rangatahi Ora programme fosters a sense of belonging and engagement for Māori students, resulting in equitable NCEA achievement outcomes and high levels of regular attendance.
  • School leadership provides appropriate and timely support for beginning teachers and those who are new to teaching in New Zealand.
  • The college effectively identifies and supports students with additional learning needs, while also providing tailored ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) support to meet specific student requirements.
  • International students are made welcome by the school community, and the college provides effective supports to help these students reach their academic goals and participate in the wider life of the school.

These comments from ERO represent a huge amount of work from staff and students.  We are very proud of what has been achieved so far, and we hope our community is also proud of what their students are achieving at Horowhenua College.  We are focused on providing the very best educational opportunities for our students and appreciate partnering with our community to achieve this.

Our ERO report shows we have made significant progress and we continue to work hard to build on this success and grow successful young men and young women.
