Greetings everyone
Computers, the internet and digital technologies are changing the face of how students learn. No longer is the teacher “the font of all knowledge” who stands at the front of the class and tells students what they need to learn. More and more, teachers are “the guide on the side” who facilitate their students’ learning and share on the journey of learning with their students.
Using technology, students are able to share their work with their teachers on-line and receive feedback on-line outside of school hours. Using devices, teachers can link their students with a class in other countries, take them on a virtual tour of famous museums and art galleries around the world, speak with an author from another country as well as use google to find the answer to (almost) any question you can think of. The possibilities are only limited by our imagination and our ability to use the technology available.
As staff at Horowhenua College, to ensure we are all equipped to use this technology we are upskilling ourselves. Each Tuesday morning we become students again as we work to further improve our use of digital technologies. We do this so our lessons can include these digital technologies and in so doing further enhance our students’ learning. This is an exciting journey and as technology continues to develop, we are willing and able to embrace the learning opportunities it provides for our students.
Nga mihi koutou, manuia tele, kind regards
